Having tried the Eine Kleine Kolsch last week I thought I’d see what other delights BlueBall brewery had to offer. I was looking to get Spanked at Chester Beer & Wine (get a bottle of Spank beer, another BlueBall ale) but they did not have any in so I thought I’d give this a go.

The brew is a deep, robust, and vibrant red, with a soft white head.

Brakspear – Triple

Origin –             Witney, Oxfordshire

Style –                Copper Ale

Season –            Autumn / Winter

Don’t be put off by the beers high alcohol content. Certainly not a session ale but full of vibrant flavours, it has a rich and bright copper colour, with a white creamy head.

A hint of banana’s on the nose, with a smooth and creamy mouth feel, but beefed up by a punchy alcohol kick.

Chunky, Flavoursome, Powerful, with hints of liquorice on the palate, with sweet malty biscuity undertones.

Savour the long delicious, digestive biscuit malty finish.

Dent – Tow’d Up

Origin –            Dentdale, Cumbria

Style –             Stout

Season –         Winter

A beautiful black smooth stout with a fluffy cappucino head.

Roasted malt on the nose, with slight metallic like notes. Full of rich treacle, fruit cake and toffee flavours with a solid malty backbone.

The finish is creamy and buttery leaving a lingering buttered toast taste in the mouth.

Warming, rich, and silky.

Nick Staffords – Nightmare

Origin –            Melmerby, North Yorkshire

Style –             Stout

Season –         Winter

A plenty of clout stout!

This is a deep ruby black stout, with a frothy tan head.

Take a deep breath and inhale the sweet liquorice and strong coffee aromas, with some delicate chocolate malts giving it a sweet bouquet.

Malty, Chocolatey, Caramel notes make it robust, thick, and flavoursome, and it has a lingering bitter chocoalte finish.

Wouldn’t describe this as a nightmare, it’s more of a wet dream!

Wadworth 6X

Origin –             Wiltshere, England

Style –               Copper Ale

Season –           Autumn

Wadworth 6X is a copper coloured ale with a lively luxurious head

A malty biscuity sweet aroma, is somewhat unexpected and is in contrast to the hoppy tangy flavours.  Fruity on the palate, leading to a dry and bitter finish.

I think that this is a great example of a good classic English cask ale, nothing fancy, just solid strong taste, and a rich malty taste. Most beers tend to lead towards hoppiness at the moment so it’s nice to have them malty notes last from nose to finish.
